The asset
is the crew

You already know that. It's most of what you spend and the whole of what you sell.

Where it sits ↓

Where it sits

Not everybody costs
the same to lose

Each bar is what a year of losing that level actually costs you, at your headcount and your turnover.

They are also the ones most likely to go. Survey after survey puts managers ahead of both the crews they run and the executives above them on burnout, and ahead on how many are quietly looking. We are not printing a percentage here, because the figures in circulation trace back to vendor surveys rather than to anything you could go and check.

The direction is consistent enough to plan around. The seat that costs the most to refill is the seat under the most pressure, and most leadership training is about how to run a job rather than how to carry one.

The gap

Your two trades sit first
and second on this list

72
Men in mining & extraction
56
Men in construction
32
All industries

Suicide deaths per 100,000 workers a year. CDC, National Vital Statistics System, 2021.

Mining and extraction is the highest rate of any industry the CDC measures and construction is second, which means the two we work in are the top of the whole list. The distance between 72 and 32 is not the weather and it is not the nature of the work, it is the one thing in these trades nobody has pointed real measurement at, and your people are inside it.

What you get

You'd know something
nobody currently knows

Rebar keeps every answer on the worker's own phone. We can't look anybody up and neither can you, which is exactly why people answer it straight. What comes back is a count, never a name.

01

Where the pressure is. How many of your people are flagging on sleep, money, drinking, isolation and mood. Suppressed under ten responses so a small crew can't be picked apart.

02

What to spend on. If money is the top flag, a financial benefit beats another EAP flyer, and right now you're guessing which one it is.

03

Whether it moves. The same read every quarter, so you find out if what you bought did anything.

Rebar went live on 11 August 2026, so there's no study behind it yet and no return figure. Anybody in this market handing you one made it up. We think this saves money, we built the thing that measures whether it does, and we'll publish what we find either way.

The ask

Put it in front of your people

Tell us roughly how big the crew is and we'll send the QR codes, a toolbox-talk script, and whatever else it takes to get it onto phones. Nothing to buy, no contract.

Separate list from the worker app, and nothing anybody enters into Rebar ever reaches it.

Change the assumptions

Defaults are here so the page answers in one field instead of eight. Every one of them is yours to move.

Every number, and where it came from
Replacement by role
Center for American Progress, 30 case studies: replacement runs 5.8% to 213% of salary and climbs with seniority. Only the ~20% low band and the 213% executive ceiling are theirs. The middle tiers are ours. americanprogress.org
Key-person exposure
Zero unless you type it. There is no defensible general figure for what it costs when the person who planned the job leaves with what they knew.
Still free.
